Albuquerque Press Women
- a chapter of New Mexico Press Women, a professional organization of journalists and nonfiction media writers. APW members meet the second Monday of the month to learn new skills from leaders in the field and to network with others in writing and photography. NOVEMBER, 2004
Nov. 1, 2004 Hello members and friends of Albuquerque Press Women. The 2004 election year is just about to come to a close and on this eve of the election, many critical races are still in a dogfight and can go either way. This has been one of the most interesting and some call THE most important election year of our time. We always want to provide an opportunity for our members to join in lively and engaging discussions and next week, we will once again, do just that. If the 2000 presidential election is any indication, elections could be decided or not when experienced political consultant Eli Il Yong Lee speaks at the Albuquerque Press Women luncheon on Monday, Nov. 8, from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown Albuquerque. Please note that this is a change from our usual location this month. Parking is free at the hotel. Luncheons are open to the public for the nonmember price of $21. Or join APW at the door and pay the low member price of $15. For reservations, contact Janet Ford by Friday, Nov. 5, at 720-7821 or E-Mail. Lee, CEO for the political consulting firm Soltari, Inc., will share information "he wishes the media knew about political campaigns." Lee worked for the Richard Romero campaign this year but has experience working with both major political parties. Lee and Soltari Inc. had a hand in electing four of the nine members on the Albuquerque City Council. A son of Korean immigrants, Lee grew up in Kansas City and moved to Albuquerque in 1995 while working with Youth Action, a nonprofit that helps high school age kids get involved in community issues. Also tentatively scheduled to join in the discussion are Albuquerque Journal political reporter Andy Lenderman and The Albuquerque Tribune political reporter Shea Anderson. For information, contact Diana Sandoval, at 841-6052 or Next month, we'll be back at the Sheraton Uptown and will bring you a panel discussion on finding balance between work and the demands of every day life. These are professional issues that are being examined and discussed by major employers around the country. Local human resources professionals from Sandia Laboratory, the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce have been invited to discuss what their organizations have begun to offer their employees in an effort to help balance their professional and personal lives. Mark your calendar for Monday, Dec. 13 and plan to join us. Bring your boss as your guest!
