New Mexico Politics: Trends for 2007 and
Speculation on the 60 day session
at Feb. 12 Luncheon

Learn more about New Mexico Politics on Monday, Feb. 12 when Joe Monahan offers his insight into state politics in 2007 and brings us up to date on the 2007 New Mexico state legislative session.

The 60-day session began Jan. 16, 2007 . Monahan is an Albuquerque consultant in public relations, UNM grad, former radio newsman, KANW political anchor/newscaster, and the author of the state’s arguably most-read political blog, “New Mexico Politics with Joe Monahan" (joemonahan.com). Monahan's blog is a must-read for those addicted to the state's political issues. He will tell us what his "alligators" are saying about the session and what he is forecasting for NM politics in 2007.

Join us! Luncheon begins at 11:45 a.m. at the Sheraton Uptown hotel. Members $15, nonmembers $21. Reservations: contact Janet Ford by Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 720-7821 or E-Mail. March Luncheon--Save the Date: Mar. 12 . Stay tuned for details as we engage the areas’ most insightful speakers on the topic of PR and Marketing.

Donation to NMPW Scholarship Fund – APW has donated $169 to the NMPW Scholarship Fund. We had budgeted a $100 contribution for this year that was augmented by the $69 raised by the cooler raffle. Thanks to all who purchased raffle tickets. The winner of the cooler was Mark Hartman.

Save the Date: State Conference--April 27 and 28 is our state conference, in Santa Fe . Look for the latest details at the state’s web address: www.newmexicopresswomen.org .

Member news--Laurie Mellas is recovering well from surgery and appreciates the many offers of help from APW (...as a single mother of a 5-year-old, it does take a village!) If you ever want to unleash the helpfulness of this group, just raise you hand – I’d bet we could raise a barn in 6 days! And Susan Walton offers thanks to all for the outpouring of sympathy and support following her father’s Jan. 1 death. Many thanks also to APW for making a memorial contribution in Jim Walton’s name to KNME. His last few TV viewings were of BBC World News Tonight, the usual local Friday Night Channel-5 line-up, and This Week with George Stephanopoulos.
