The Chief Executive and Operating Officer of the University of New Mexico Hospital Steve McKernan will be the guest speak at the regular monthly meeting of Albuquerque Press Women on September 12 at the Claim Jumper restaurant (5001 Jefferson NE) at 11:45 a.m. McKernan will discuss renewal of the property tax mil levy for the hospital that is on the November ballot.

Each year UNMH receives about 90 million dollars from Bernalillo County taxpayers to fund hospital operations. County taxpayers help underwrite the only level one trauma center in the state. The hospital also functions as a care center for under insured and indigent people from throughout the area. There is some concern about whether Bernalillo County taxpayers are carrying too much of the cost. McKernan will discuss the hospital’s financial condition and the mil levy question before voters.

McKernan joined UNM Hospital in 1980. He is a Certified Public Accountant and has worked in many financial positions in the UNMH system. He graduated with a B.A. from Bonadventure and has a Masters Degree from UNM.

Please note this is a change of venue for APW. We will order from the menu at the Claim Jumper. An additional $5 fee will be charged for non-members. Everyone is welcome.
